Archery was not a sports event in the first ancient Olympic Games in Greece. However, the games were held for over 1,000 years, so it’s entirely possible that at some time archery was an Olympic climb in the past.
Archery for men was an event for the first time in the modern athletics in 1900. The first archery event for women was in 1904. However, there was no uniformity in the rules in those early athletics and archery was dropped as an event after 1920. The planetary governing body for archery, the Federation Internationale de Tira l’Arc (FITA), was founded in 1931. It took many years before all countries acknowledged the newborn planetary rules for competition, but archery was healthy to return as an Olympic climb to the 1972 Munich Games. In 1988, team competitions were held in addition to the individualist events.
Since 1992, the event format is head-to-head competition for the top 64 athletes. There are four archery events: Men’s Individual, Women’s Individual, Men’s Team and Women’s Team. Individual competitors (men and women) shoot 72 arrows at a ‘bulls-eye’ direct from a distance of 70 meters (229 feet, 8 inches). Each shot must be prefabricated within a 40-second time limit. A perfect score would be 720. A ’sudden death’ overtime shot is prefabricated in the event of a tie. Team competitions consist of 16 3-archer teams. As in the individualist events, each bowman shoots 72 arrows are shot at a distance of 70 meters. In a bond score, each team member will shoot digit arrow. The arrow closest to the edifice of the direct determines the winner.

So it’s another lonely day at the office, when you really just sit around and do nothing. You’re on a corporate PC that has everything locked – no music, no movies, nothing. All you have is your web browser and you want to download free games. Don’t despair, there is a way.
With the evolution of flash technology, games are now available in your web browser. All you have to do is type in playedonline.com and voila – endless arcade game entertainment. Most addictive online games are usually strategy games, as they eat up your time by making you think – not just do mindless button mashing. Is that a good thing? Probably. It sure beats degrading yourself with pointless shooters (but those are also fun).
The most popular game on playedonline is Tetris. And make no mistake, Tetris isn’t dead. It’s just one of those games that’s so addictive, you can spend countless hours trying to beat your previous record. And while it seems like a pointless arcade game, it actually demands as much thought as a strategy game – but with very limited reaction time.
There are also more complex games, such as Invasion 3. This game allows you to build and upgrade soldiers and archers. You can create battering rams, call in the cavalry and use bombers and cannons to destroy the enemy castle. Lots of fun, but demands a fair amount of strategy involved.
If you’re the medieval type of guy, there’s always a game called Age of Castles. It literally allows you to build your own castle. You recruit workers that do the actual building, train soldiers that defend your sanctuary and get merchants to start trading, expanding and conquering the world.
But as games tend to get more and more… simple, the most interesting games are usually not what you would expect. Two years ago a game called “Penguin Swing” came out. It was an incredible hit. All you do is press a single button 2 times. First you press it to let the penguin drop down, and while he falls, you have to time your swing and slam him with a bat so that he flies to the side of the screen. Depending on your timing, his “flight” distance will differ. The trick is to get the longest distance possible. Another trick is to land him on various boosts that make him fly even further. This game doesn’t have much interaction at all, so after 2 clicks you just hope to get the longest distance. But hey, it’s entertaining to slam a penguin with a bat and see how long he flies.
Overall free online games are great entertainment, both for killing time and stress.
71 nations, 17 sports and 12 days of high entertainment - Commonwealth Games 2010 will certainly give a
new identity to Delhi as well as India on a global platform. This 19th edition of Commonwealth Games will be held in Delhi and promote integrity and team spirit. This multi national and multi sport global event will involve the elite athletes of the Commonwealth of Nations.
The budget of the entire event is estimated to be around US $ 1.6 billion (which does not include non sports related infrastructure development). The best part with the preparations of the games is the development of Commonwealth Games Village, which covers over 158.4 acres of land. The ideal location of the Games Village on NH-24 connects it easily to all the stadiums in Delhi.
When it comes to the list of sports, there are a total of 17 kinds of sports activities that will include aquatics, archery, badminton, boxing, cycling, hockey, shooting, squash, table tennis, lawn tennis, wrestling, weight lifting etc. Arrangements are being made for security, transportation, electricity, accommodation and other facilities.
According to the games authorities, an inflow of 2 million foreign tourists and 3.5 million domestic tourists is expected in Delhi during October 2010. To cater to these tourists, all the major tourist destinations near Delhi (like Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Varanasi, Khajuraho, Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Mussoorie etc.) are also being developed to promote India tourism. The success of this event can strengthen India’s bid for 2016 Summer Olympics. And with heavy inflow of tourists from all over the world, India tourism will certainly get a superb recognition.
