Lets go backward and discuss about birth of commonwealth games.Commonwealth games are the part of words history. This was is essential part of regular gamin schedules a game which connects the world.
A successful effort for a sporting contest for the members of the British Empire was first proposed by Reverend Ashley Cooper in 1891 when he wrote an article in a magazine suggesting a Pan-Britannic Contest and Festival every four years as a means of increasing the goodwill and good understanding of the British Empire”.
Later, in 1911, this Festival of the Empire was held in London to celebrate the coronation of King George V. As part of the festival an Inter-Empire Championships was held in which the teams from Australia, Canada, South Africa and the United Kingdom competed in events like: swimming, athletics. Wrestling and boxing. Then in the year 1928, Melville Marks Robinson of Canada was asked to organize the first British Empire Games which were held in Hamilton, Ontario in 1930.
An overview of the Impact of Commonwealth Games on Tourism.
Being able to bring in the 2010 CWG, Common Wealth Games, to Delhi, the National Capital Territory (NCT) as the host country has been a big boost for brand India. Delhi stretches for 1483 km, skimming border areas of States of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and the contact ability of CWG (Common Wealth Games) Delhi 2010 on tourism is obviously expected to help build and establish better, stronger and enviable resources and image for the host city, its surrounding areas and the country at large.
How far this impact of the Commonwealth Games on tourism will be felt can only be determined after this great sporting event, scheduled for October 2010, comes into full spirited force; bringing along with the pleasures of the games, a greater scope for allied industries and ministries that look towards sports tourism as a smart card to enhance their own lot. Some of these include marketing, advertising, education and hospitality sectors that are looking forward to introducing a new India for the sportspersons, their respective entourage and other global visitors to the country.
While knowing the time frame beforehand for the CWG is a definite advantage for the ministry of culture, tourism, transport and industrial development, there are many related ministries wanting to also jump the band wagon to use the CWG as a base for developing greater public relations with domestic, regional and international representatives at the CWG for their industry.
The Commonwealth is primarily an organization in which countries with diverse economic backgrounds have an opportunity for close and equal interaction. The primary activities of the Commonwealth are designed to create an atmosphere of economic co-operation between member nations, as well as the promotion of democracy, human rights, and good governance in those nations.
As you might have guessed by now, the various sports activities like Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Bowls, Boxing, Cycling, EAD Events, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis and Weightlifting are all meant to bring the countries together to strengthen the relationships. This time (2006) it was Australia next time (2010) it will be India.
The important part to remember here is, just because you are a member country, this does not give you the right to organize the Commonwealth Games in your country. There are criterion that the member country has to meet before it can even “bid” for the commonwealth games to be held on its land.
You got a new term there, BID. Yes you heard that right, a member country actually has to place a bid and win the bid so that the games could be played on its land. India has won the bid last time over Canada. This is a moment of great pride that the events are going to be held in India, they not only won the bid but they are actually very close to meet all the deadlines that were given to prepare for the games and improve the infrastructure according to the international standards.
